Well, I finally got myself connected to xbox live - and the first thing i did.... download the demo of Clover of course. Demo only lasted for about 5 mins but wot i saw was fun.

Good game - i can see the Dizzy similarities, the 3d effects are cool too - like the church seats that follow the camera.

I like the way u dont die if u hit things like hedgehogs - u just bounce off
Also enjoyed when I fall in the water, I dont die - just get taken to jail for polluting the river?!?

Downsides for me are only 1 slot for items, and the music - it feels so depressing, and I found it awkward using the xbox controller for a game that I think would be better suited to keyboard

So would I buy this?
Well no, but why? well...here comes the rant...
Firstly I only got a trial for xbox live and havent got any credits yet
Secondly - I dont see the point of using an xbox to play anything other than the games designed to test its capabilities such as high graphic 3d shoot em ups etc - after all thats wot i bought it for
I mean you can play 2d games or retro style on any low spec PC - or even on mobile phones... theres even demos of Pac-Man or Frogger to buy on XBox FFS!?!- wot is the point of buying a powerful gaming console to play a game over 20 years old, that in its heydey only used a few k of memory?? I know its big business and all - but I just dont get why youd buy a games console like a 360 and want to play something like that? Theres even sonic the hedgehog available to buy for the Xbox, when I can just dust off my old master system? or even use a PC emulator...
So on that principle, I dont think I'll buy Clover - I just hope they release Clover on PC or on a flash site.

Just a quick post to say that Clover: A Curious Tale is on its way to the PC. I’m very excited to be working with Blitz Games Studios on this. Seeing the Blitz Dizzy shrine was seriously cool!

Yup, it's coming out for PC don't worry.

I love playing modern Xbox games that, as you say DizzyFanUK, push the system to it's limits and yes, like you I bought one so that I could keep up with that. HOWEVER I do enjoy playing retro games on it too, very much indeed and I have bought all four Sonic the Hedgehog games for it. I mention these because you use them as an example and yes, I could play them in their original guise or emulated on PC. But playing them over Live gives me leaderboards (and hence the ability to challenge friends), online Sonic 2 multiplayer and achievements. And games shouldn't be ignored just because they don't push the boundaries of the system. Some of the best Xbox Live arcade games don't. Marble Blast Ultra, Trials HD, Axel & Pixel, Switchball, Outpost Kaloki X.... As for the old re-releases such as Arkanoid & Double Dragon etc, it's great to be able to play these classics against the top scores of Xbox players world-wide and with online multiplayer to boot.

Point taken - being a noob to xbox live - ive not yet played vs other players - ill be sure to try it - sounds fun - But I still think that functionality is kinda wasted unless your playing a high graphics shoot em up or fighting game

Im not sure that having a leaderboard would tempt me to buy 1 player games like Clover or even classics like pac-man or Sonic. - It'd be too depressing seeing how my pathetic score compares to serious gamers...

I also think its a cheek that we should pay for low-end games that in some cases are over 20 yrs old - they made their money, they dont need any more {yolkfolk} - and for some of them, those companies that would get royalties dont exist any more anyhow - Why arent games like Double Dragon or Pac-Man freeware anyway - they only cost about £10 to buy in the 80's so theyd be worth nothing in todays money

Sure its a different story for Clover - cos its a relatively new game by a indie developer looking to get established - so good luck to them if they can make a profit

Now, I do know people who are so hardcore into retro gaming they even bought & fitted their own Arcade machine - just to play Pac-Man etc. and they love it
- I still dont get it, tho...maybe its just me

Anyhow, I guess Im just happy that I can run Dizzyage on my low end PC and play xbox for photorealism (well nearly)...

Sorry this is way off thread. I think most people have got used to my rants, by now - I do like to go on...and on....

Deejay - Managing Director, Binary Tweed Ltd.
binarytweed.com - New games that are a bit like old games, but better
Clover: A Curious Tale - New improved, and coming to PC
Free Blitz 1UP games in return for testing WOW!!! Ive just checked out Binary Tweeds website - and there's lots of updates about them making some big improvements to Clover including a version for the PC.
Hats off to 'em - looks like they've taken on board some of the feedback from this thread and then gone a step further
  {yolkfolk}
The voice activations and inventory changes look very interesting.

By the way I think I read that if people want to help test the game they can get a free copy - is that right DeeJay? Maybe there'll be a few volunteers to be found in this forum?

Good luck with this DeeJay!!! Please keep us posted with a PC release date.

Damnit, I let me forum-checking routine slip!

Cheers, hopefully the new version won't disappoint. There's quite a few improvements.

There's a fair bit of pressure on making another game in the Dizzy genre after Clover, but there's a lot of artwork involved, which makes it rather expensive. Plus the engine only works on PC and Xbox 360 at the moment.

Are you still playing this boo?

I cant get into it all {yolkfolk}:tired:
It seems like everytime i make any sort of move i end up in jail {dizzy} and im not enthralled enough with it to keep persevering so have given up on it. :surprise:
The kids in the family seem to like it though especially the 4 to 10 yr olds probably the comic book graphics appeal to them.
Will stick to dizzy i think and theres more than enough of them on here ive still to work my way through and theyre more fun. {dizzy}

I haven't had chance since my last post in this thread. I am completely stuck on what to do next. I need to calm the cat down (I've seen some rats that need dealing with). I'm not sure when I'll next play it, having way too much fun killing things on Overlord at the moment

Does anyone know if I'm meant to maneuver past the sheep or if i need to solve it? i got half way to collect the item but that took forever.. so I'm guessing it's not really possible unless i sort them out. EDIT: done it.

Anyway i had to start over and this time i saved the chaps house from burning down.. pretty cool to have slightly different outcomes depending on what you do.. Excellent stuff well worth getting the full game you lot haven't done so already i hope they make more.

Reminds me of Simon the sorcerer

Glad you enjoyed it. Guessing you played the PC version?

There's four endings, each with different dialogue. The general gist of what happens is the same.

Can I also recommend giving the Wonderland Eggy item to the Royal Orderly? There's a few in-jokes like that, and a couple of Dizzy references too (such as one of the paintings).

Which bit are you stuck on? The jail thing is an alternative to having lives... It can be pretty inconvenient, but it does mean you'll never have to start from scratch.

EDIT. completed it (3 hours 11 minutes 26 seconds)
i got the ending we all went to war and sam got locked up... i'll have to play it again and see if i can get a differnet ending.. i had so many unused items.. didn't even find a Wonderland Eggy ?

I'll save you some effort by saying that the endings only differ in dialogue - there's no 'happy' ending.

Press Shift to see item names... Should be in the instructions somewhere
