I have seen many adventures come and go, but the best stories are the ones we remember together.

— Grand Dizzy
The Story So Far

From one unusual hero to an entire world

Dizzy first appeared in 1987 as a simple, expressive character with red gloves, red boots and a habit of tumbling through danger. The original adventure mixed exploration, item-based puzzles and storybook humour, establishing the formula that would shape the series.

As the adventures grew, so did the cast. Daisy, Denzil, Dylan, Dozy, Dora and Grand Dizzy transformed the games from a lone quest into the wider world of the Yolkfolk. New kingdoms, villains and styles followed across home computers and consoles.

The official releases are only one part of the story. Players, artists, musicians, researchers and fan-game creators have continued building, documenting and celebrating Dizzy for decades.

The Adventure Begins

The Oliver Twins created Dizzy while experimenting with a character that could rotate and tumble smoothly. The simple egg shape made the animation readable, while the gloves, boots and expressive face gave Dizzy an instantly recognisable personality.

Dizzy – The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure sent players through the land of Katmandu to gather ingredients for a potion capable of defeating the Evil Wizard Zaks.

The World Takes Shape

Treasure Island Dizzy expanded the puzzle format, followed by Fantasy World Dizzy, which introduced more of the Yolkfolk and established the character-led world remembered by many players.

Arcade-style spin-offs such as Fast Food and Kwik Snax showed that Dizzy could work beyond the traditional adventure structure.

1991–1994

The Golden Years

The series grew rapidly with Magicland Dizzy, Spellbound Dizzy, Fantastic Dizzy, Prince of the Yolkfolk and Crystal Kingdom Dizzy.

Adventure games, arcade games, compilations and special editions brought Dizzy to a broad range of machines and introduced many of the locations, characters and stories still celebrated today.

Rediscovery and New Adventures

Later releases and rediscovered projects brought new attention to the series. The HD remake of Prince of the Yolkfolk was followed by titles including Wonderland Dizzy, Mystery World Dizzy and Wonderful Dizzy.

At the same time, fan developers continued creating original adventures, remakes and new engines that made the world of Dizzy accessible to another generation.

Behind the adventures

The people who shaped Dizzy

The Oliver Twins

Philip and Andrew Oliver created Dizzy and designed the foundations of the series: a cartoon hero, compact storybook worlds and puzzles built around finding the right object for the right situation.

Codemasters

Codemasters published the original games and helped Dizzy become one of the most familiar characters of the British home-computer era.

Artists, programmers and musicians

Many developers contributed code, graphics, music, cover artwork and new platform versions. Their work gave each release its own identity while retaining the recognisable Dizzy character and world.

The community
