About the Game
Dizzy and Pogie rushed for shelter in their house as a fierce wind approached.
The wind whirled around their house ripping it from the ground and taking them soaring up into the heart of the cyclone!?

They awoke when the house came crashing down with a bump and a scream!
Opening the door they discovered they were in a new and magical land called Oz.
A land ruled over by four witches – the good witches of the North and South and the wicked witches of the East and West.

Only, now Dizzy appears to have killed the Wicked Witch of the East making the Wicked Witch of the West furious, and in a rage she snatches Pogie and disappears in a puff of smoke!

Dizzy must rescue Pogie and find a way home and the answers appear to lie with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City.

Along the way, Dizzy meets a brainless Scarecrow, a heartless Tin Woodman and a Cowardly Lion and many other characters who all need his help, many of whom seem oddly familiar.
Trivia & History
Wonderful Dizzy” is an original adventure game thought up and designed by Philip and Andrew Oliver (The Oliver Twins).

Plans for this game were first unveiled by the Olivers on the 13th May 2017, with the story heavily based on “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”.
However, the Olivers said that they would only go ahead with the game’s development if the Kickstarter campaign for the “ZX Spectrum Next” reached its target (which thankfully it did!).

Following the Spectrum Next’s successful Kickstarter campaign, the Olivers confirmed that the team behind the 2017 Spectrum remake of “Crystal Kingdom Dizzy” will be developing Wonderful Dizzy.

After over 3 and a half years in development, the game was officially released on the 18th December 2020 with its very own website launching on the same day.

There had been plans to release an enhanced version of this game for the Spectrum Next, taking advantage of the machine’s graphical abilities.
Unfortunately, due to some of the team members receiving some petty abuse from Next fans over the way Wonderful was released, Philip Oliver confirmed that the Next version of the game will not be made.

The aim of the game is to save Pogie from the Wicked Witch of the West and to convince the Wizard of Oz to help Dizzy and Pogie find their way home.
But this is not as simple as it sounds.

You start the game with 3 lives, a health bar and can carry up to 3 items.
The inventory system is very similar to the one used in the 2017 remake of Crystal Kingdom, but with one additional feature where the HUD now displays which item(s) Dizzy is carrying.

Throughout the journey, you will find pieces of fruit that replenish your health.

There are also a total of 100 coinstars to collect along the way, but only 99 of these coinstars need to be collected in order to finish the game.
Accessing the 100th coinstar involves using the can of oil before saving the Tin Man.
Finishing the game with the extra coinstar alters the ending.
