"Easter Egg Hunt" Event using the new engine features

I’ve been thinking about a cool idea. How about we host a special contest for the upcoming Easter holidays?

Here is the plan:

  1. Select Games: We choose a few high-quality / classic DizzyAGE games.

  2. Runtime Patches: Using my runtime patch system, I can insert animated Easter Eggs into these games at specific coordinates. Crucially, this is done in memory, so the original game files remain untouched.

  3. Gameplay: Players need to find and tap/collect these eggs while playing.

  4. The Hub Integration: I will create a special “Event Page” in the app’s Central Hub. It will list the participating games and feature a Leaderboard showing who has found the most eggs.

  5. Rewards: Winners will receive a special digital badge or trophy displayed in their Central Hub profile.

What do you think about this idea?

Update: Credits Section I have added an "About / Credits" menu to the game. The app now correctly displays the copyright notices for the DizzyAGE engine creator (Alex Simion) and links to the Yolkfolk.com community. Respecting copyright is a priority for the project's development. Here is a screenshot of the updated interface:

Thank you and good luck with the project!

Re: The Easter Egg Hunt event sounds like a great idea!

I've beaten Ton Up Dizzy part 2 as a test for the game uploading and everything seems to work very well.

I got a random "bug" where an insta-killing enemy became invisible...but its possible its one of Grandad jokes. It enemy was visible when I loaded an earlier save, though.

So far no major or obvious bugs on the horizon, very well done Yozka

Hi there, bug report:

Daisy does Dallas has a tiling bug. No save this time, just start the game and the bug is visible in the intro: the background tiles dont use correct tile and instead use green hills tiles. This is very common in the entire game and even affects color fade in effect(which happens right after the intro plays out).

Nothing else major found in other games I've finished. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the report!

The issue was caused by incorrect resource loading. Ive already fixed it, and a patch will be released in the coming days.

Also, Im happy to share that work on the iPhone release is in full swing!

Glad to hear that everything went smoothly with the other games. Thanks for your support!

Hi @yozka

Since Wonder Egg doesn't have its own thread, I've split some of the posts and moved them here in the Fan Games forum so they're easier for people to find.

Feedback, suggestions, bug reports and version updates can be posted here.

Hello

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to prepare a special Easter event this yearall my energy and free time went into conquering a new platform and preparing the iOS release instead. However, I have some great news to make up for it!

Technical Leap: The Engine is Now on SDL3! The project has made a huge technical leap forwardI have completely migrated Wonder Egg to the modern SDL3 framework. This was a real challenge; the framework's architecture changed significantly, and I had to rewrite a massive portion of the code. But as a result, the emulator now runs on iOS natively, smoothly, and without any compromises or errors.

Android Version is Up to Date A few days ago, a fresh update for Android went live version [IP redacted] is already out, powered entirely by the new SDL3 framework. Feel free to update and check out the performance!

The Battle with Apple for the iOS Version Right now, I am going through the App Store review process. Apple predictably rejected the initial build. Since Wonder Egg is an emulator, the strict reviewers demand a physical ROM file for testing. Their corporate firewalls block requests to our database, so the setup where all game packages are downloaded dynamically from the internet did not satisfy them.

The Solution and a Question for the Community To defeat the moderation process once and for all, I have decided to embed one starter ROM directly into the engine. Upon the very first launch, this game will start automatically so that reviewers (and new players) can immediately see working content and confirm that the emulator functions correctly.

And this is where I need your help! I have a dilemma which game should we choose as the embedded ROM? It needs to meet three criteria:

  1. It must be vibrant and colorful (to impress the Apple reviewers).

  2. It should have a great balance of difficulty and be perfect for a first introduction to the world of DizzyAGE.

  3. It must be highly stable.

I look forward to hearing your suggestions in the comments! Which Dizzy adventure deserves to become the "face" of Wonder Egg on iOS?

@yozka - It's a very difficult choice, but probably "Dizzy and the Other Side" - by Alex Simion (creator of DizzyAGE).

It is vibrant and colourful.

It has a story that's guaranteed to keep you playing.

The puzzle solving is tricky in parts, especially in Act 4.

It's also a very large game, so you won't be able to beat it in one play through.

@yozka

Its good to hear back from you!

Dont worry too much about the event. Theres always next year and other celebrations like upcoming summer ;)

I tried Rock Dash Dizzy and it indeed seems to play smoother than before I may try to complete it soon.

Do you think that, with SDL3 boost, it would be possible to unlock background music for Dizzy in the dungeons?

As you may remember, that game got its bg muted to boost performance.

A starter game is good idea. I would back Adams choice of the game as starter game. Chapter 1 especially is great.

If you want something shorter but still looking good, maybe Log cabin Dizzy would make a good candidate?

I had also an idea to propose Fantastic Dizzy: Home alone as its very good looking game.

Hi friends!

I have some news and updates regarding the WonderEgg project!

  • Pre-installed game: Now you dont need to download anything extra to start playing right away! Ive added a builtin game to the app  Dizzy and the Other Side by Alexandru Simion. Just open WonderEgg and dive straight into the adventure!

  • Changes to the iOS description: Ive tweaked the app page text for Apple devices a bit. I am now positioning WonderEgg not as an "emulator," but as a gaming platform where games are downloaded from a fan database. To be completely honest, I changed the wording specifically to pass the strict App Store review process without any issues. The core essence and functionality of the app, of course, remain absolutely the same!

  • Android Update (Version 25): Great news for Android users! Ive released a fresh version 25 of the app. Ive finally fixed those annoying bugs with minimizing the game the app now runs stably and brings you back to your gameplay without any issues.

Things are much more complicated with the sound. It seems I was using the SDL3 audio engine incorrectly, which caused playback issues. The sound is lagging. Now I'm rewriting the audio-related parts of the code.

Thank you for sticking with me and supporting the project.

Well done on getting it on the IOS!

I see the new update also added Portrait mode, nice.

There is a long standing bug that I havent reported yet: Start a game. Go to Sound options. Set a SFX volume to 0 (as example).

Exit to game selection. Load the game again. Play the game: Sound volume is 100% rather than 0%. Go to settings, the text says 0%. Change the sfx volume and it will go correctly to 10% and volume will update correctly too. I guess the engine does not load volume from saved settings when game starts and instead always sets it to 100%.

Hey! Thanks a lot for the kind words about the iOS release and the new Portrait mode!

Also, a huge thank you for this detailed bug report. You hit the nail on the head — the engine was indeed visualising the saved volume percentage in the settings UI but failing to actually apply that value to the audio mixer on a fresh game launch, resetting it to 100% by default.

I’ve got some great news: this has been completely fixed in the newly released Version 29! Now, your saved SFX and music volume settings will load and apply correctly right from the start.

On top of that, Version 29 features a completely revamped network layer. A lot of players were recently complaining about games being unavailable or failing to download (mostly due to SSL/TLS certificate issues on certain devices). I’ve rewritten how the app handles secure connections, so downloading games from the database should be way more stable now.

Thanks for helping make WonderEgg better! Update to v29 and let me know how it works for you.
