As reccommended in this months Newsletter - i thought id try out this fairly old fangame by BubbleFox for my first time.

To anyone who's played this - id appreciate your help as Ive come a bit stuck - Im not sure what to do with the sticks & bucket of water - also how can i see where im going in the dark room in the castle basement?

btw - Im enjoying this game - i love any game that looks like fantasy world on the St/Amiga. I wonder why there arent that many more fangames that have similar graphics like this - I like Dizzy games that are colourful and cartoony - I can only think of a couple of other fangames that have this look and play well too - Excalibur Dizzy springs to mind.

Anyway I also like the idea of an interactive game map similar to something in super mario bros 3 i suppose? But is there supposed to be no sound?

Good stuff BubbleFox

I've been playing this for the last few days. It's been fun, but hate the 'unwieldy' jumping system as sometimes you just keep on bouncing along the clouds when pressing the up button and miss where you're supposed to land (lots of saving and loading!!)

Does anyone know if the game is finished or is that DizzyFanUK and me are just crap adventurers! as I can't find anyplace to use the wood or the bucket of cold water either ...or find a way to get onto the moving cloud, especially when you've unblocked the well as you can't seem to land on the edge, but just roll into the well.

I've also tried using both items on the dragon to either shut off his flame or light the wood to get into the 'dark' basement but that didn't work.

Also got no idea as to the purpose of the 'shop' as I have 36 diamonds but the only extra life I got was from finding a secret room.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Grandad I tried but can't figure it out either. In fact I only found 24 gems so you did better then me.

Thanks for giving it a go SnTrooper. The extra diamonds are in secret rooms on the main map. From looking at the 'read me' notes it's possible that not all the sections are finished ...and unfortunately the web addresses are now defunct.

I think I'll have a go at making an amended version (giving credit to BubbleFox) as the concept and graphics are excellent.

These were the kind of fan games we used to have before DizzyAGE.

I haven't played this for a long time so I have little memory with the progress I made on it.
Also, I never managed to finish it either. Got as far as the Abandoned castle with 36 diamonds and an acid proof umbrella, a pile of wood and a bucket of cold water. No idea where to go from here.

We haven't seen bubblefox for years, and he never registered on this version of the forums.

Huh, acid proof umbrella ...it only protected you from the raindrops outside the abandoned castle, not the acid drops at the bottom of the well. My intention is to expand the game somewhat and keep to the same style of graphics ...so have already started taking screen shots so that I can make the tiles as close to the original as possible (let's hope I've still got my notes on Jamie's dragon coding).

Where is the abandoned castle?

This Help thread is for Bubblefox's PC fangame only. Slight difference in the title.

The Thread is now here -- https://yolkfolk.com/communityforum/dizzy-fan-games-help/grandads-next-generation-dizzy-help-thread-3/

Not that I'm sure that this thread for the original fangame is needed anyway as we don't know how to finish it. :wall:

Answering you question, the Abandoned Castle will appear with the other doorways when a switch is pulled - The problem is I can't remember which one I pulled as I'm assuming it wasn't the same spot as Bubblefox's game. :umm:

the switch in BubbleFox's original game was in 'the island's edge' in the room under the left hand 'stream'.

Right, where do I begin with this?

Well I've been spending yesterday browsing through the online Wayback Machine.
There I stumbled across an old build of Dizzyland.co.uk (Bubblefox's old Dizzy site) and discovered by accident that there was a download for another build of Dizzy - The Next Generation.

So it turns out, after all these years we've been hosting a beta version of this game that's appears to be impossible to complete.
Not just Yolkfolk, but a few other sites hosting the game too!

The discovered version is known as v1.2 and is now downloadable on Yolkfolk.

:egg: https://yolkfolk.com/games/dizzy-the-next-generation

So what's different on this build?

- A location added - "Theodore's Fortress"
You can use the Bucket of Cold Water towards the flames in the fortress to access a switch that gains you access to a deciptively hidden underground section located outside the left-hand side of the fortress.
There is an item there that let's you explore the dark section in the Abandoned Castle.

- 3 items known as "A very powerful bomb" are now located in Grand Dizzy's storeroom, underwater in Island's Edge and in a room in the Abandoned Castle.

I've been progressing well on this build.
However, I fear this build may not be beatable either as I am now stumped again with these items.

- A Very Powerful Bomb (all 3)
- A Pile of Wood
- A Locked Treasure Chest
- Aqualung
- An Acid proof umbrella (which only protects you from the rain in the Abandoned Castle)

I can only assume that I need to use the bombs on the pile of rocks in the Abandoned Castle, but I can't find any way to light the bombs up.

Also in Forest Central, there is an unreachable platform the now has a diamond on it, located far-left of the treetops, no items I have helps.

I have a horrible feeling that there maybe another cryptic location that I'm not aware of, like those invisible platforms at East Island.

If you wish to look at the game yourself, be my guest.

It's just a real shame that Bubblefox has disappeared off the face of the earth, I feel the only way we can understand this game is through him if he remembers any of it.

Nice one Adam. I've just downloaded this and will put my new game on hold for a couple of days and have a go at this little beauty {yolkfolk}

Basically I'm being a total div on this new build :wall: All I have is the bucket, bottle of ink and aqualung. On the old build I know I opened the well, filled the bucket and went left past the 'hidden ledge' room and up past the flying insects to do something. Hidden ledges on East Island????? All I can find is a couple by the end or the r/h edge, but keep falling through the cloud that leads to the top of the rocks! The only extra I've found is the hidden room at the bottom left of the map that gives you stacks of diamonds and health.

Give me a hint Adam before I go bananas {dizzy}

The trail starting from the invisible platforms and clouds on East Island is the only known way to get the bottle of ink.

If you have the ink already then pay Rockwart a visit to get the crowbar.
I don't really understand the logic behind that solution at all.

As for my progress, I fear I have certainly reached another dead end.
By accident, I discovered another cryptic solution where I can open the chest by dropping it on top of the weird alter thing in the room behind the dragon.
Even though pressing shift on top of the alter gives you no text.

Anyway, the chest had a hammer inside it, which can be used to remove the rubble.

Beyond the rubble took me outside where you will need the umbrella, and the pile of wood.
On the other side is another diamond, and an exit that DOESN'T WORK!!! {dizzy}

I'm really hoping this isn't a major bug.
I know the other exits normally take you back to the map, whether or not this one is meant to take you somewhere else I do not know.

And I still haven't figured out what the 3 bombs are for or how to light them.
Am I supposed to destroy something else? {yolkfolk}

While we may never know the answer, I did manage to collect 45 diamonds.
There is a 46th diamond, but like I said before, its still unreachable in Forest Central.

Totally agree with your findings Adam. even tried dropping bombs where the dragon's flame would hit it, but nothing ...as a last resort I tried to blow up the fluffle. Now I've accidentally pressed F5 at the start rather than F8 :wall:
